Palliative Care Treats The Whole Person,
Not Just An Illness

Why Would I Want Palliative Care?
If you are dealing with an illness that limits your daily activities and you are not sure where to turn, a palliative care consultation may be what you need.

What Will I Learn?
Palliative care addresses the best way to manage and treat your physical symptoms caused by your illness. At the same time, palliative care addresses any social, emotional or spiritual needs you or your family may have. Palliative care does not interfere with your relationship with your family doctor, but is designed to complement and aid the care you receive and any treatments your doctor has ordered.

Palliative care considers you the leader of the decision making team in determining the care you need, and the support you and your family need.

Who Would I Consult With?
You will meet with a specially trained physician or a nurse practitioner educated in palliative medicine. The palliative care team will discuss your illness and needs with you, and then pass along recommendations to your family doctor. You can discuss these suggestions with your doctor and then decide upon the best approach that will meet your specific wishes.

How Do I Arrange A Consultation?
Request that your doctor arrange a consultation. If you are in the hospital or in a facility, ask your nurse. If you prefer, call us directly at 828/466-0466, and we will take care of the arrangements.

Can I Receive Any Palliative Care Follow-Up?
If you and your personal physician decide that you would benefit from additional follow-up care, our Transitions staff, physicians, and nurse practitioners design a specific program that best fits your needs.

If you are interested in palliative care for yourself or a loved one, it is likely that there are already services we can provide. Call the Admissions Department with your questions today at 828/466.0466, ext. 2379, or email info@pchcv.org for more information.
